Yesterday we talked about how to accomplish your goal.
In an ideal world, once you have decided upon your major focus for the year, you just take action until it becomes a reality.
However, we don’t live in a perfect world.
Sometimes we move forward towards our major focus and then we get stuck.
What do you do in that case?
In 2020, my goal was to move out of front line phone customer service and get into a leadership position off the phones.
I was on track to do that.
Then suddenly, the global pandemic hit.
Forget new position.
I was literally out of work and in my house for weeks.
To make matters worse, the only other income stream I had at the time, my fantasy sports business, was also shut down because there was no sports.
Having no idea what was going to happen, I needed to pivot.
Fortunately, I had an idea that I was sitting on that I never implemented.
Not every idea that you get is for you to implement right away.
Some ideas are meant for you to set aside for a while.
The idea that I had was to teach people about this concept of stewardship that I learned from the bible.
The question though was how would I go about implementing the idea?
So here, I found myself stuck. My original strategy to get back to my field of favor was out. My only other method of earning income was out.
I had an idea, but I wasn’t sure how to go about launching it.
What do I do?
When you get stuck it usually occurs for one of two reasons.
You either get stuck because you have a lack of options.
Or you get stuck because you have too many options.
The way you can tell which one is to list your options.
If you cannot come up with any options or any desirable options, you fall in the lack of options category.
If you come up with a lot of options you fall into the too many options category.
If you have a lack of options, you want to expose yourself to more options.
Who do you know in your network that can help you?
In my case, I came across a colleague from my network marketing days.
His name is Sam Crowley and he hosts a podcast called Everyday is Saturday.
I scheduled a call with Sam and told him my idea.
He thought my idea would be great for a podcast.
Now I had more options. I could set up a podcast on my own. Or I could hire someone to do it.
I opted to hire Sam to set my podcast up for me.
It was great! He shared with me so much good information about podcasts that I would have never found out on my own.
He even set up all the software for my podcast for me.
He even edited my first few episodes and showed me how to edit them so I could do them on my own.
With that one time investment, I now have an asset in the form of a podcast that I can continue to add content to that will get my message out to people who don’t know me yet.
A big wake up call to me about how much potential this had was when I got a message from someone on Twitter.
They didn’t know me and I didn’t know them.
However, they found my podcast, listened to some episodes and enjoyed them.
So much so that they took the time to reach out to me to tell me.
Maybe you don’t know anyone in your network that can help you.
Do some research and see if you can find a solution online.
In my case, I could have looked on Google for “Free Ways To Promote My Business.”
That would have wielded me millions of web pages and videos I could have looked at.
If you have too many options it’s the same process.
The only difference is instead of looking for options, you’re looking to reduce your options down to the one or two that make the most sense.
In my case, I might have asked Sam, “Why should I do podcasting verses other methods of marketing?”
He would share some of the benefits of podcasting and from there I can decide to eliminate the other options or eliminate podcasting.
Once you do that, now you are unstuck and can move forward!
